Baby, allegedly abducted, found in late-night hunt

A migrant couple accused of abducting a one-month-old baby was arrested by the Aluva police late on Friday (February 15, 2025) night.

The arrested were identified as Rinki, 20, a transperson, and friend Rashidul Haq, 29, both from Assam. The baby boy of another migrant woman from Bihar was the one allegedly abducted.

The police received a complaint from the mother that ₹70,000 was sought as ransom after her baby was allegedly abducted on Friday around 8 p.m. The petitioner identified the accused from among the photos of transpersons in the station’s crime gallery.

Though the police rushed to Rinki’s rented house, she had by then fled reportedly with the baby. A hunt supervised by District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) Vaibhav Saxena was launched.

Several CCTV visuals were examined. Railway stations, bus stands, areas near the Kochi airport, district borders, and likely hideouts of the accused were also examined.

Eventually, the police intercepted the vehicle of the accused. According to the police, the accused had planned to take the baby to Assam. They were produced in court and remanded.
