In a joint operation, the Bihar and the NTR District police arrested six persons who allegedly struck a mobile phone warehouse and stole 271 iPhones and other accessories, valued about ₹2.51 crore, the NTR police said on Friday (February 14).
The accused, part of a seven-member gang, entered the warehouse at Enikepadu under Patamata police station by cutting the roof in the wee hours of February 6.
The Central Crime Station (CCS) police traced the gang’s four-wheeler with Uttar Pradesh registration to Sasaram check-post under Shivsagar police station limits in Bihar within a few hours of the burglary. On being alerted, the local police soon arrested the accused, said Commissioner of Police S.V. Rajashekar Babu.
Speaking to the media here, the Police Commissioner said a team led by Dehri Superintendent of Police (SP) Roshan Kumar arrested the gang members and recovered the mobile phones and other valuables intact.
The accused have been identified as Deepchandra Prajapati, Maya Jai Prakash Patel, Sunil Kumar Saroj, Brijesh Kumar Ugra and Surendra Kumar Patel, natives of Jaunpur district in Uttar Pradesh and Mithilesh Kumar of Araria district in Bihar.
Tried to sell items in Nepal
The gang tried to sell the mobile phones in Nepal’s Kathmandu through another accused, Ranjit, who is on the run, Mr. Rajashekar Babu said, adding that a team of the CCS police brought the accused to Vijayawada, along with the stolen material.
The Police Commissioner lauded CCS Circle Inspector M. Ram Kumar and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police M. Raja Rao, ACP Ch. Venkateswarlu and other officers for cracking the case within a few hours of the burglary.
