MVJ College of Engineering hosts ‘Vishwa 2025’

On the occasion of National Science Day, MVJ College of Engineering (MVJCE), in association with Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), Bangalore Chapter, hosted a one-day workshop titled ‘Vishwa-2025: Innovations for a Climate-Resilient and Sustainable Future on Earth and Beyond’ on Friday.

In his inaugural address, B.N. Suresh, chairman, MVJCE, spoke about the power of science and technology for national progress. “Only the countries which innovate will survive in the future,” he said. “Imagine a situation where all these mighty rivers dry up – what would happen to a country like ours,” he asked, raising concerns of climate change’s impact on people’s lives.

S. Gopalakrishnan, Chairman of INAE, Bangalore Chapter, said that while engineering was all about problem-solving, when applying math and physics to real-life challenges, sadly the education system’s exam-centric approach was more of a hindrance.

During the lecture session, Padma Vibhushan awardee V.K. Aatre acknowledged India’s scientific heritage, discussing the transformative power of technology in the fields of defence, medicine and space exploration.

“Science is not just about discovering new facts; it is about understanding our place in the universe,” he stated. He added, “Technology, when used wisely, has the power to transform societies and uplift humanity.” While celebrating nanotechnology, AI and transhumanism, he also warned of the environmental consequences of unchecked technological growth like global warming.
