Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that no one will be evicted from their land in the name of preserving waqf properties in Kerala.
He was here on Saturday (February 15) to open the new regional office of the Kerala State Waqf Board. Mr. Vijayan alleged that some people with vested interests were trying to snatch away the rights of the minorities in a bid to target them. Deliberate efforts were being made to create an impression that the minorities were cornering undue benefits. Mr. Vijayan said that steps would be taken to resist such attempts. The Chief Minister pointed out that all the constitutional rights of the minorities would be protected, adding that the welfare of the minorities did not mean the issues faced by a particular section. They should be viewed as social issues, he said.
Blaming the Union government for the reported cut in financial allocations for the welfare of the minorities, Mr. Vijayan said that the State government had allocated ₹106 crore for various schemes benefiting the minorities.
