‘Over 40,000 students have benefited under 7.5% reservation scheme’

Minister for Higher Education Govi. Chezhiaan said that 40,168 students have been benefited in the last four academic years, under the State government’s scheme to absorb the expenses for education in professional courses of students admitted under 7.5% reservation for government school students.

In November 2021, a Government Order was passed on the 7.5% reservation for government school students in professional courses and it was immediately implemented, Mr. Chezhiaan said in a statement.

A sum of ₹1,165 crore has been released under the scheme in the last four academic years. Through the scheme, 35,530 students have been enrolled in vocational courses, 2,382 students have been enrolled for medical courses, 1,369 students have benefited by joining agriculture courses. While 261 have joined veterinary courses, 626 have enrolled in law courses, the Minister said.
