According to Aztec myth, Huitzilopochtli, god of war, sun, and general badassery, was born mid-battle, fully grown and fully armed, because his mother got knocked up by a ball of feathers. Yeah, feathers. While she was sweeping. Naturally, her 400 other kids didn’t take the news well, so they plotted to murder her for the feather-fueled indiscretion. But before they could finish the job, Huitzilopochtli burst out of the womb like a mythological action hero, grabbed a flaming serpent weapon, and immediately slaughtered most of his siblings. It’s basically the Aztec version of a Jerry Springer episode, but with more blood and cosmic significance.

What I’m getting at is that there’s plenty of fertile ground for some interesting slots to be made based on Aztec myths. I mean, they were almost as wild as the Ancient Greeks. It is, as a result, unsurprising that Pragmatic Play has once again mined Aztec mythology for inspiration with its new Fortune of Aztec slot.

The hunt for a 100,000x multiplier begins

The Fortune of Aztec slot from Pragmatic Play features up to 32,400 ways to win rather than fixed paylines. Betting starts at just $0.20, with a maximum limit of $2. If you’re betting at the upper limit, you could win up to $200,000, thanks to the 100,000x maximum multiplier. The slot has high volatility, meaning wins may be infrequent but can result in significant payouts. The RTP is 96.5%.

The slots Tumble feature is just a cascading reels feature with symbols involved in winning combinations disappearing. The remaining symbols then fall to the bottom of the grid, and new symbols drop from above to fill the empty positions. New symbols are the same size as those initially displayed before any tumbles. Tumbles continue as long as new wins appear. Once all tumbles are completed, all winnings from that sequence are credited.

Occasionally, symbols, excluding Wilds and Scatters, may land with a silver border. If these symbols form part of a win, they do not disappear but instead transform. Their borders turn gold, and the position reveals a new random paying symbol. If a gold-bordered symbol then becomes part of a win, it changes into a Wild. If this Wild contributes to another win, it then explodes and tumbles like a standard symbol.

With each tumble, a multiplier increases by x1 and applies to all wins for that individual tumble. After all tumbles are complete, the multiplier resets back to x1 for the next spin.

You can unlock the Free Spins feature by landing between 4 and 14 Scatter symbols in a single sequence, awarding between 10 and 30 free spins depending on the number of Scatters. During Free Spins, each tumble increases the win multiplier by x2 instead of x1. The multiplier applies to all wins during the feature and resets only when the round ends. Landing another 4 to 14 Scatter symbols while in Free Spins will retrigger the feature and award the corresponding number of additional spins. Special reels are in effect throughout the feature.

The Fortune of Aztec slot had us seeing double

The Fortune of Aztec slot initially confused me because Pragmatic Play released a slot in 2023 called Fortunes of Aztec. I feel like they need to get a little more creative with their naming. Once that confusion subsided, I was greeted by a fun, made-for-mobile slot game with a fair amount going for it. The gameplay is solid, and the design is fun. I do wish they’d made more use of the incredibly cute character they created for the game, but in a mobile-focused format, space is at a premium. With a solid foundation and that absolutely insane 100,000x max multiplier, Fortune of Aztec is a great little game. I give it a nine out of ten.

If you’re looking for a few other fun Pragmatic Play games, I recommend trying out Club Tropicana and Waves Of Poseidon.
