Union Minister Somanna to inaugurate new booking office and flag off MEMU trains at Ashokapuram railway station

Union Minister V. Somanna will inaugurate the new booking office at the second entrance of the Ashokapuram railway station on Saturday.

He will also flag off special train No. 06231 (MEMU) from Ashokapuram Station (AP) to Bengaluru (SBC).

The two pairs of MEMU trains will provide more convenient travel options for passengers.

Girish Dharmaraj Kalagonda, divisional commercial manager, Mysuru division, said the new facilities at Ashokapuram Railway Station will ensure a seamless and comfortable travel experience. “Passengers should make use of the newly extended MEMU train services, which aim to enhance connectivity and improve travel convenience,” he said.

Operation of a few more trains will also begin from Ashokapuram on April 1st, which will help reduce congestion at the city’s main railway station, besides providing smoother travel to Mysuru South.

With this, the transition of Ashokapuram railway station towards full operational capacity will be complete and will help enhance Mysuru’s railway and transport infrastructure. It will indirectly help decongest traffic as more passengers are expected to shift from road mode to rail.

The extension of more trains to Ashokapuram station is because of the capacity augmentation of the Mysuru main station, which, at present, is clogged. Currently, about 54 pairs of trains operate from the main station. Due to these capacity constraints, introducing new long-distance trains will not be feasible.

The station was expanded at a cost of ₹32.5 crore. The new facilities that were added include the second entrance, additional platforms, and the implementation of advanced ticketing and passenger information systems. Earlier, the station had three platforms, and it has now been expanded to six platforms and will be a critical infrastructure boost as it is only 5.2 km away from the Mysuru city railway station.
